Welcome to the Crown
On Hopton Bank, halfway between the Wyre Forest and the heights of Titterstone Clee, there has been a pub on this spot for centuries. Travellers climbing up from Cleobury Mortimer would stop here to rest. Locals from the surrounding farms and villages came to eat, drink and be amongst their own.
The Crown is somewhere to come and properly relax. Eat well in the Rent Room or pull up a stool in the Poachers Bar. Sleep soundly in one of our 18 rooms. Wake up to a full Shropshire breakfast and a day's walking straight from the door. This is proper, unhurried country hospitality — and we think there's nothing quite like it in the area.
Food & Drink at the Crown
We serve two different menus under one roof. In the Poachers Bar, you'll find proper bar food — hearty, satisfying, no fuss. In the Rent Room restaurant, we cook seasonal dishes that make the most of what Shropshire and the Welsh Marches do best: game, local meat, and produce that hasn't travelled far.
There's always a local ale or two on the bar, ciders from the surrounding orchards, and a wine list chosen to go with the food rather than fill the page.

Eighteen rooms, each one different. From beamed rooms in the oldest part of the inn to the Garden Studio with its own private garden, there's a space to suit whether you're here for one night or several. Dogs are welcome too.

Staying at the Crown
Explore the Area
Medieval Ludlow is 15 minutes away by car — a proper market town with independent shops, a famous food scene and a castle worth an afternoon. Beyond that, the Shropshire Hills offer some of the best walking in England, and the views from the top of Clee Hill on a clear day reach as far as the Black Mountains.
Staying here puts you in the countryside properly, not just near it. Which is rather the point.
