Two ways to eat
One very good kitchen
The Poachers Bar
The bar is the heart of the Crown. It's where locals come for a pint after a walk, where families spread out on a Sunday afternoon, and where dogs are just as welcome as their owners. The log burner stays lit through the colder months. The bar stools don't move much.
The bar menu is designed to be exactly what you want after a day on the Shropshire Hills — proper, satisfying food without any ceremony. Onion rings, loaded fries, whitebait, breaded chicken, hunter chicken, fish and chips. Done well. Eaten without guilt.
The Rent Room
Named for the room where the local gentry once collected their tenants' rent, the Rent Room is our restaurant — a proper dining room with history in the walls and something more considered on the plate.
We focus on seasonal ingredients and the best of what the Marches produce. Game features heavily when it's in season. Meat is sourced locally. The menu changes to reflect what's good right now, not what's convenient year-round.
This is the kind of cooking that doesn't shout about itself but leaves you wanting to come back. We're proud to be mentioned in the same breath as the restaurants in Ludlow.

A fine selection of local ales & ciders
We take the bar seriously. You'll find real ales from local breweries — Wye Valley, Ludlow Brewing and others depending on the season — alongside proper draught ciders from the orchards that surround us. The wine list is short and well-chosen.
The bar is open to non-residents, and always has been. Locals are part of what makes the Crown the Crown.
